One of my latest acquisitions is this timelessly elegant Maitland-Smith console crafted from mahogany. The top is covered in sienna leather with an embossed edge and gilt border, surrounded by fine wood veneer. As a vintage piece of furniture, there are a few condition issues that I need to point out. Some of the veneer is missing from the back edge of the top (refer to picture 10), but it isn't visible from the front of the console. The section of missing veneer on the right side of picture 10 extends to the top where there is a small indentation, which is visible when looking at the back edge of the console. There is a small area of wear on the front edge (refer to picture 11). The leather top is in remarkably good condition with no stains or wear (refer to picture 3). Once this console is placed in a room, these flaws will be hardly noticeable, but I want you to aware of them before adding this piece to your collection. There is no drawer in the apron in front. The six legs are elegantly slender, but they are stable and support the top without any shakiness. There is a metal plaque with the Maitland-Smith name attached to the back of the console.
I photographed this console outside on a sunny December afternoon, which gives the wood a warm glow. The color of the wood will invariably look different when viewed in an interior setting under artificial light. Please take this into consideration when matching colors.
