These two might be small, but they have a lot of personality. What makes them special is their shape: a bulbous, ribbed body resting on a flared pedestal foot. This elevation gives them a sense of elegance, distinguishing them from standard flat-bottomed kitchen jars. They feature the classic "Kalai" (tinned) finish, which has worn down beautifully to reveal the copper warmth and oxidation underneath. The lids sit flush on top, creating a clean, uninterrupted silhouette. As a pair, they feel collected and intentional.
Sourced from India, these footed vessels were likely used for storing semi-precious kitchen staples like specialized spice blends. The pedestal base served a practical purpose—raising the pot off the cool ground or counter to help regulate the temperature of the contents. The vertical fluting (ribbing) is a traditional technique used by Thathera metalworkers to strengthen the walls of the vessel while adding a decorative touch.
Small pairs are incredibly useful for creating symmetry in your decor, place them on either side of your stove—one for coarse sea salt, one for peppercorns. They are far more interesting than modern ceramic jars.
