Sourced from a working homestead nestled in Southern Indiana which was claimed in the late 1800s, these bottles did of course serve their intended purpose, providing wine for both enjoyment and medicinal purposes over the years. Eventually, however, the farmer needed to give medicine to his treasured pair of Clydesdale horses (the female was named Dolly but I forget the name of the male).

And thus, these bottles served in the 1940s-1950s for a very different purpose: as vessels to more easily give working Clydesdale horses medicine. Those two horses faithfully served the family until modern innovation and frugality necessitated that they be sold to help pay for tractors.

In the 1990s, these bottles were dug out of a bucket in one of the sheds on the homestead, cleaned up, and have since been on display.

This set includes all 5 pictured bottles, and please know that shades of color can be subjective:
1 is a gorgeous blue. Teal? Aqua? Turquoise? You be the judge! Approx. 13 3/8" tall.
1 is a lovely shade of amber, approx. 13 7/8" tall
1 is what I perceive as a cranberry color but some might consider it a dark amber, approx. 13 7/8" tall
1 is an olive green, Approx. 13 7/8" tall
1 is clear and embossed: Garrett & Co, established in 1835. St. Louis, MO. Norfolk, VA. American wines. Registered trademark. Refilling prohibited by law. Approx. 13.5" tall.

These are old and were used! Thus, they have some stains, scuffs, and scratches. As photographed, some of the lips are chipped. See less
