The piece features … Read more This vintage Asian black lacquer ice bucket on stand dates to the late 20th century, likely 1960s–1970s. The piece features a tapered square-form vessel raised on an elegant stand with curved legs and includes the original fitted lid and removable galvanized metal liner - a total of 4 pieces. The glossy black lacquer exterior is decorated with raised figural appliqués depicting traditional figures in a garden landscape. The figures stand in subtle relief against the lacquered ground, while the borders are accented with delicate hand-painted gold and white decorative motifs. Decorative brass handles on each side make the vessel easy to lift and move while also enhancing the traditional Asian design.

The removable metal liner allows the piece to function as an ice bucket or wine cooler while protecting the lacquered exterior. Many of these are missing the original lid and have been converted to planters. This piece however can be used as intended, or as a planter or display stand.
