This antique etching of the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome was engraved by Giovanni Balzar (1777–1831) after Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720–1778), the famed Italian artist and architect renowned for his masterful etchings. Part of Piranesi’s celebrated “Vedute di Roma” series, the work captures the grandeur of the basilica’s richly adorned interior, emphasizing its scale, intricate architectural details, and importance as one of the city’s most historic landmarks.
