Very good condition with minor signs of wear.
stefan wewerka, born in 1928, was a german polymath. The son of sculptor rudolf wewerka (1889–1954), he was drafted into the wehrmacht in april 1945. On his way to halberstadt to collect his conscription papers, he narrowly escaped death in a bombing raid. Motivated by an older soldier, the young wewerka decided to desert. It is perhaps only thanks to this circumstance that this exceptional artist survived into the federal republic of germany. After the war, wewerka initially worked in his father's workshop before studying architecture at the academy of fine arts (hfbk) in berlin. After his studies, he worked in various architectural offices, including that of hans scharoun. However, his interests extended far beyond conventional architecture. He developed a particular fascination with chairs. He developed his own form of deconstructivism, pushing the boundaries of usability to their absolute limits. This resulted in the legendary chair sculptures b1 (1979) and b5 (1982), created in collaboration with tecta. Werkika's comment on this: "the chairs that existed up to that point were all conceived in a one-dimensional way: you sit down, have an armrest on the right and left, look straight ahead, can cross your legs or sit astride them. Such a chair hardly allows for any more deviations. [\.] this fixedness always bothered me, and with the b1 i was able to realize my vision, which allows for various comfortable sitting positions. 'the armrests have different heights and dimensions, which makes this possible.'" i have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
designer records,
or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising
