This unique vintage Continental sterling silver cigarette case dates from the early 1900’s & is decorated with a wonderful geometric … Read more This unique vintage Continental sterling silver cigarette case dates from the early 1900’s & is decorated with a wonderful geometric niello pattern. Accenting the niello work is an oval medallion with a whimsical painting of a dog smoking a pipe. To open the case, one depresses a side button revealing two side by side compartments for unfiltered cigarettes. The case is hallmarked on both sides of the body & can be seen when the top is open.
On one side is the letter A in a circle & a castle in a hexagon shape punch mark. The other side has the initials RN in a rectangular punch mark & the profile of Diana with a crescent moon. The portrait & niello are in good condition. The case requires some adjustment, as there is a visible gap at one side of the bottom when closed.
