This Pablo Picasso very rare vintage 1950 hand signed Mourlot fine art lithograph print " Les Partisans De La Paix " custom framed landmark French poster is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The lithograph print poster is published by the review " Les Partisans De La Paix ", printed in France in 1950 in an unnumbered limited edition of 500 by Mourlot Imprimerie Paris. The rare lithograph print poster is designed by Pablo Picasso for The Second World Congress of Supporters of Peace in 1950. It features an artwork image created by Picasso commissioned as the illustration to advertise the 1950 International Youth Conference in Nice, for the absolute ban and prohibition of atomic weapons.
This is a rare opportunity for true Picasso fans and collectors, as this coveted image landmark fine art French poster is long out of print and very scarce to find. The poster is is plate signed in the the print in the lower right corner below the artwork image, additionally it is hand signed in pencil by the artist to the left of the plate printed signature.
Pablo Picasso ( 1881 - 1973 ) was a Spanish born painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, poet and playwright who spent most of his life in France. He is regarded as one of the most important and influential artists of The Twentieth Century. Exceptionally prolific throughout the course of his long life, Picasso achieved universal renown and immense fortune for his revolutionary artistic accomplishments, and became one of the most well known figures in 20th Century Art.
The venerable famous printing house of Imprimerie Mourlot Paris was founded in 1852 by The Mourlot Family. It is known worldwide for its fine art lithography printing, and one of their most important contributions was to be the art poster. Mourlot became the place where posters were prepared and produced as works of art in their own right.
This landmark fine art lithograph print poster is one of the most iconic and desirable of the collaboration and long lasting partnership between the artist Picasso and Imprimerie Atelier Mourlot who together would create many important art posters. An example of this same poster is held in the permanent archive collection of some of the most prestigious museums worldwide.
Beginning in the 1930's Fernand Mourlot invited the major master artists of the time into the lithography studio to learn the medium of printing together. Encouraging the artists to work directly on the lithography plates to create original prints and posters in limited editions. The results of this artistic collaboration between master artists and Mourlot became internationally known for their originality, beauty, and exquisite craftsmanship.
Picasso was a tireless political activist and campaigner for peace in the Post-War period. He was a prominent figure in post WWII peace movements using his art to advocate for nuclear disarmament, anti-war causes, and global harmony. He created iconic imagery which became universal emblems of The Cold War era's fight against destruction and for timeless human solidarity and peace.
The rare out of print framed fine art lithograph print French poster measures 26 5/8" W X 35 7/8" H X 1 1/2" D.
It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass, archivally presented, hinged mounted with an acid free black matt board presentation, in a Contemporary Modern matte eggshell finish black wood museum box style frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent condition. The poster print is in excellent vintage condition consistent with age, light signs of handling, and some light to moderate visible surface wear. It is brand newly custom framed and has never been displayed. Please see photos for condition reference. It is now being offered here for an excellent price.
