Fantastic Three Chamber Sporting / Travel Flask.
Circa 1850-1870, and British to the core!
Entirely original, which is marvelous.
Marked Drew & Sons - who produced Campaign Furniture and Equipment to the Crown. Piccadilly Circus, London. England.
Leather outer case holds three decorated glass vessels inside - each with a silver hallmarked top and enamel detailing,
Case buckle and strap are intact, as are all the elements of the flasks themselves. Tops fit tightly and all connects as it should. Stitching is still crisp as are all ages and trims.
Each flask has an enamel ring for a pop of color on the silver top - one red, one blue, and one white. Blue is the larger vessel - half the total space inside, with the other two one quarter each.
Each vessel has a gorgeous hand engraved script monogram - AMC in equally sized letters.
Stamped Drew & Sons on the inside top.
6.5" tall, 5" diameter.
Showing moisture shading on the outer leather, and the blue enamel ring has losses. Overall, a time warp piece that is ready for another 150+ years.
In keeping with Aesop's fable, Fox and Crow's Motto is "Beware of False Flattery!" So, with each listing we offer a true confession about the item...
Campaign and Sporting Furniture and Casegoods are a favorite of ours - one of my husband's prize-possessions is a pair of 19th C. Campaign chests his father acquired in the 1960s. We have them stacked in our bedroom and we use them EVERYDAY!
So, it could be with this wonderful piece - which presents are ready for some shooting or fishing the field TODAY.
The detailing on this piece is just incredible, and it is wonderful to see it with the leather bits all in good order.
And, the Drew & Sons Royal Warrant adds a nice bit of pedigree for sure...Abercrombie & Fitch and Brooks Brothers here in the US (way back the day) would have sourced items from Drew for their stores here in the second half the 19th C. , which is just amazing to think about.
If you enjoy a statement piece on your bar, or a fantastic office piece - this is it!
