Regal portrait of Adam Rudolph Kress von Kressenstein, an 18th century German aristocrat. On Handmade paper, half-length, facing front, dressed in councillor's robes, his right hand to hip, resting his left arm on a ledge, after a painting by Hirschmann, behind a balustrade with his coat of arms
Mezzotint and engraving. Mounted in matting.

Signed at the bottom in the plate.and printed in 1742.
Condition is good for age. Some minor loss and tearing at edges and minor blemishes in places. Stabilized on verso in places for support.
This/these prints would look so right in a study, lawyers office, judges chambers or a legal firm.

Exposed image is 11" x 16". Matting is 15 1/4" x 20 3/4". Paper is about 16" x 12".
Further reading: Mezzotint was the first tonal process to be used in printmaking and allowed the engraver to do produce subtle shadings utilizing half-tones without the need for line-or dot-based techniques.
