It features an inlaid bird design of two birds perching on a delicate branch. The inlay was done by master craftsman in the Couroc facility of Monterey, California. This particular tray is inlaid with brass, wood and resins.
The Couroc Company was founded in Monterey, California, in 1948 and closed sometime in the late 1970’s.
The designs were created by co-founder Moira Wallace and a team of master artisans.
Each piece is made of a proprietary black phenolic resin that is supposedly indestructible, it was marketed as resistant to alcohol, cigarette burns and even flames.
I have been a decades long collector of Couroc trays long before it became fashionable to collect Couroc, and I have happily observed the value of these trays increase significantly over the past decade. Couroc trays are much harder to find now due to the high demand by enthusiasts & serious collectors. Couroc prices continue to rise so not only are these trays works of art to enjoy they are a good investment that hold value. See less
