“Suzani” derives from the Anatolian word "suzan" for "needle" and refers to bright coton embroidered wall hangings and bedspreads that adorned homes of people on festive occasions. Suzanis are practical yet decorative items that took months for 1-2 individuals to make. There are variations in the shade of the silk thread used to embroider this, as is commonly seen in older suzanis that were made for personal use in people’s homes.
