I believe it is Mahogany; it has a very smooth grain with a hint of reddishness. A VERY SPECIAL, rare chair -- I couldn't find a similar one available online, anywhere!!

Multiple Uses: Office guest, Parlor, Vanity, Writing Desk, Occasional / Side Chair at Tea Table

Decoration: Slim gold gilt-inlaid line on along the frame/arms/legs with gold gilt floral Inlaid Medallion on fluted fan pierced splat back. Graceful Queen Anne legs
Upholstery Fabric: Late 19th c. I believe original! Elegant, High-quality Satin Stripe & stitched Upholstery over cushioned, Wire-spring seating.

The age is a guesstimate between Victorian and Edwardian times, with a French Parisian more than an English flair. The delicate, intricacy of the gold gilt inlaid splat is most similar to a French occasional chair in my antique furniture book.

Please take a look at the IMPORTANT CONDITION NOTES! There are several Tiny "100+ years" of use, Antique-age flaws (to be expected on a treasured piece). Flaws that do not affect sturdiness or beauty! ADDS character, but I wanted to make sure YOU the buyer knew.

The chair feels very solid when seated; I can feel a springiness in the seat cushion's wires; nothing creaks or moves—well-made, high-quality chair. The upholstery still has years left in it, but does show a wee bit of age around the borders where it is attached to the wood. The larger satin stripe is a lovely light salmony peachy orange, with cream and gold accents. I will freshly clean it with a natural solution before it ships.

SHIPPING NOTE: The chair back and legs are one piece of wood, so I can not disassemble prior to shipping. The box may be a bit unwieldy, not terribly heavy, just may be difficult for one person to get inside. See less
