C1970s-80's; Mid-Century Modern, pair of lucite block bookends, with gilt gold leaf layered inclusions, and a center circular hole formed, … Read more C1970s-80's; Mid-Century Modern, pair of lucite block bookends, with gilt gold leaf layered inclusions, and a center circular hole formed, cut-out. At first glance one assumes it is a tubular brushed nickel insert, to the center roof each bookend, but in fact it is a sleight of hand visual and all lucite formed during the manufactured processes. There are mini little dot protectors on one end or underside of each bookend, original or placed by previous owner, either way there is no crazing whatsoever on these bookends. The" only," thing we found illusionary was that we can actually feel the layered gold edging from the outset of each bookend, and are dumbfounded how they gold leaf was sustained in layers, within these lucite bookends.
