The interior of the plate is decorated with a finely carved pair of cranes perched on the branches of a gnarly pine tree, amid rocks, bamboo and other plants. The ambiguous background could be either a placid lake or sky. The interior side is decorated with a wide band of eight medallions of opposing artemisia leaves enclosing curving vines. The exterior is black lacquer covered with a very fine, small pattern craquelure. A six character, Xuande, reign mark is carved to the center of the exterior base. A descriptive label is affixed to the side of the plate, which says "lacquerware appreciation plate with crane and pine longevity design". Circa late 19th century to early Republic of China era. The traditional, Chinese, hongmu stand is included.
