These large … Read more Offering a remarkable antique pair of Large 14" bronze book matching candlesticks, circa Early to Mid 20th Century. These large and heavy whimsical bronze candlesticks depict two walking frogs dressed in Victorian style attire holding a top hat in one hand and a green lily pad in the other with a spike to hold the candle. They are sporting a hand painted burnt orange gentleman's coat trimmed in gold with low rise pants and boots. The frogs have no vest and show their protruding stomach and belly button. An imaginative example of antique animalia which has been made popular during recent times.

These candlesticks are heavy, weighing approximately six pounds each. As seen in the last few photos, these candlesticks are quite old and are hollow-cast bonze with a dark brown colored bronze patina. They are filled with a cement-like material giving them even more weight and stability.

A rare and fanciful unique antique book matching pair of large standing frogs which are very reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland. Perfect for a large mantelpiece in any luxury high end home.

GOOD VINTAGE CONDITION. Very minor paint loss. Felt bottoms will be attached and are included in the sale. One frog has a top hat with an engraving of the numeral 1 as seen in the photos.
