A 19th Century French faience asparagus plate from the Salins-les-Bains region of France. In typical French barbotine majolica fashion, this plate is richly colored and embossed with four purple head asparagus spears resting on a bed of leafy greens and against a turquoise background. A beautiful soft yellow basket weave is painted around the blue scalloped edges. Has a shallow sauce well indentation for sauce.
French majolica plates were hand molded and hand-painted and each plate is a unique piece, a one of a kind work of art.
Sourced in Paris.
