Exquisite solitary vase in baluster form on a broad round foot, conically widening wall, strong shoulders around a short neck … Read more Exquisite solitary vase in baluster form on a broad round foot, conically widening wall, strong shoulders around a short neck with a slightly flared rim, colourless glass with milky white and reddish powder infusions, overlay in burgundy red, multi-level highly etched decoration with vine leaves, tendrils and grapes against a satin-finished milky red and white background. Cameo signature 'Gallé' at the bottom of the wall between the plants. Hand-made Cameo Glass: Glass overlaid with several layers, with high-cut worked out motifs. Since the middle of the 19th century, the design has also been done by etching. Cameo glass vessels were already being made in antiquity; at the end of the 19th century, Émile Gallé further developed this glass art, created Art Nouveau designs and employed a large factory in Nancy.
