An elegant mid-century modernist style still life that captures a quiet domestic arrangement, executed in oil onto board and dated 1957.

A dark brown earthenware jug, a rectangular glass bottle, and a single lemon rest on a ledge before a softly illuminated wall. The artist has used the interplay of light and shadow to create a sense of architectural stillness and geometric harmony.

Rendered in a modernist style, the composition balances simplicity and structure. The jug’s bold, rounded form contrasts with the angular silhouette of the bottle behind it, while the lemon introduces a small but vivid burst of colour and organic softness.

Muted tones of brown, grey, cream, and pale yellow dominate the palette, creating a subdued atmosphere. The brushwork is deliberate yet textured: visible strokes define planes of light and shade, giving the objects a sculptural quality.

This oil on board is presented in a complementary wood frame. The painting has some marks at its bottom left side. The frame shows minor wear and has a nick to its left border, as shown.
