This mixed-media piece combines textile arts and painting. The painting appears to be a stylized seascape with the organic forms taking on a geometric shape. The tops of of palm trees are depicted as plumes confined to a cube balanced on green pillars representing the trunks. The trees sit at the horizon line where land, sea, and sky meet. A border of colorful dashes and triangles surrounds the landscape scene. The fabrication itself is fascinating. The image is painted on fabric which is quilted to the the surface of the white canvas. The piece is beautifully housed in a gently cerused wood frame. The artwork is illegibly signed. We do not have the artist’s name. This piece was procured in Florida and likely came from an artist living and working in the Tampa Bay, Sarasota or Bradenton area.
