Titled Cendrillon, French for Cinderella, the finely cast figure embodies the lyrical, feminine sensibility that made Villanis one of the most admired artists of the Belle Époque. Rendered in richly patinated bronze, the surface shows warm chestnut and deep walnut undertones that enhance the soft modeling of the face and the dynamic folds of the shawl. The young heroine is portrayed with an introspective gaze, her hair wrapped in a rustic scarf, alluding to Cinderella’s humble origins. Villanis’ characteristic treatment of texture, delicate in the facial features, more vigorous around the drapery, creates an elegant contrast that highlights his mastery of form. The bust rests on an integrated plinth with the cast title “Cendrillon", and bears the sculptor’s signature along the shoulder.
