Offering an exceptional, handcrafted Art Nouveau table lamp. Fashioned in solid brass, with its warm antique patina largely intact, it features four “shades” (which don’t shade, but what else to call them?) resembling calla or trumpet lilies. The slender central column spirals like a vine, culminating in leaves and blossoms and there are various “whiplash” aspects to the vines, a staple of the Art Nouveau form at its best. The organic, floral motifs (vines, petals) and the flowing lines of the lamp exemplify Art Nouveau’s celebration of Nature and Her forms, in all Her beauty.
For the advanced collector!!
Updated electrical elements include four American candelabra sockets. The two lower lights had their European bayonet sockets intact, but they were too difficult to work with and couldn’t be satisfactorily employed. The lower socket to the right couldn’t be attached to the European threads, but that doesn’t impact the functionality of the new American socket, which “floats” as do the two sockets at the top (they never had threaded anchors). If you want to change bulbs you simply grasp the cardboard sleeve on the socket and extract the bulb. Voila! (These are 7 watt bulbs.)
There’s a small crack in one of the brass tubes, near the bottom, to the left and essentially out of view when the lamp is viewed from the front (you can see it in one photo). Each of the two lower lights have a small hole drilled in one of the pedals of the “shade” – for who knows what reason…? To hang something like a crystal? Anyone’s guess! As mentioned, the gold patina is largely intact. All elements of the lamp have been delicately cleaned with an eye to preserving the antique patina. There are no identifying marks anywhere on the lamp.
As you can see, when lit, the interior of the lilies create a lovely, soft, golden hue, most warm and welcoming!
Dimensions: height, about 19 inches. The “diameter” of the base, about 7 inches.
