The tall stem of this mid-century American table lamp is made of polished brass and the beveled base is made of a salmon pink marble. While is no apparent signature or label, this lamp has long been attributed to Gerald Thurston, who worked and designed for Lightolier for many years. Based on research, our example bares all original parts - just as they were made and sold in the 1950s.
There are three sockets and the pull switch is 3-way. Also included are an acrylic diffuser below the sockets as well as a perforated powder-coated metal diffuser sitting at the top of the lamp shade - both assist in diffusing the light just perfectly. The shade is a metallic beige with a gold paper interior, which contributes beautifully to the way the light glows from within.
Gerald “Jerry” Edwin Thurston was born in 1914 in Delaware County, OH. He was one of the most innovative lighting designers of the postwar time period and became known for his elegant forms and sleek materials.
Lightolier is an American lighting manufacturer, founded in 1904 by Bernhard Blitzer. Their original name was the New York Gas and Appliance Co. Philips Royal Electronics acquired the company in 2007.
