Georges Braque ( 1882 - 1963 ) was a major Twentieth Century French painter, collagist, printmaker, and sculptor. His most important contributions to the history of art were his alliance with Fauvism, and the role he played in the development of Cubism. Closely associated with his colleague Pablo Picasso, their respective Cubist works were indistinguishable for many years. Working closely together, thus the invention of The Cubist Style was a joint effort between Braque and Picasso. In 1905 Georges Braque, Henri Matisse, Andre Derain, and Maurice De Vlaminck exhibited their highly innovative paintings at the controversial Salon D'Automne. The vivid, unnatural colors led the art critic Louis Vauxcelles to name their works as " Les Fauves ", or " The Wild Beasts ", marking the start of The Fauvist Movement.
