Crafted from dense, dark hardwood , its surface bears the deep, lustrous patina earned only through decades of gentle use and careful polishing. The top features the classic "everted flanges" (qiaotou) that curve upward at each end, a hallmark of traditional Chinese furniture that prevents objects from sliding off while adding graceful lines. Pierced and carved spandrels beneath the apron depict swirling clouds and lingering traces of once-gilded dragons, now softened by time into a warm bronze glow. Two drawers with cloud-shaped brass pulls sit above an open lower shelf framed by an intricately fretted apron of bats and stylized shou characters symbolizing longevity and good fortune. Standing on four slightly splayed legs ending in subtle horse-hoof feet, the table balances strength and delicacy, its proportions modest yet commanding, a small altar of domestic beauty that once held incense, tea, or a scholar’s brush pot in a traditional Chinese home.
