The … Read more A large and highly decorative late-19th-century porcelain centerpiece by C.G. Schierholz & Sohn, Plaue an der Havel, Germany, c.1885. The piece features a reticulated Rococo bowl with gilt handles, rising from a twisted stem and scrolled base. The surface is heavily encrusted with applied roses, forget-me-nots, and foliage, all modelled and painted by hand. The survival of almost all petals is remarkable for such a fragile form.

The interior is decorated with a painted bouquet of forget-me-nots. The two blank cartouches on the base were intended for personal dedications. The underside bears the impressed number 18/10 and traces of an erased underglaze mark — most likely removed by a later dealer hoping to present the piece as Meissen, due to the exceptional quality.

Condition
Excellent antique condition overall, with vibrant decoration and a high survival rate of applied flowers. Minor firing cracks in the openwork, very small chips to a few leaves, and light wear to the gilding. No structural restoration. See less
