The two convex ceramic panels (4.7 cm each) … Read more A beautifully preserved Kyō-Satsuma art buckle from Kyoto, dating to circa 1890–1915. The two convex ceramic panels (4.7 cm each) are decorated with cranes gliding through a moonlit sky above richly gilded blossoms. The raised moriage gold and the brocade-style floral work exemplify the height of Meiji-era Kyoto craftsmanship.

The sterling-grade silver mount retains its original clasp. One bar was expertly re-soldered long ago, leaving the structure secure and the appearance harmonious. Under UV examination the painted surfaces show no restoration or intervention, an unusually fine survival for Satsuma enamelwork of this period.

This buckle was conceived as a wearable luxury accessory, yet today stands equally as a collector’s art object. Its quiet elegance and miniature-painting detail make it ideal for display in refined interiors.

Condition
Excellent antique condition, with perfectly preserved enamel painting and intact moriage gilding. Silver shows gentle patina, and the old re-soldering is neat and unobtrusive. A remarkably clean and well-kept example. See less
