This 17th-century French Louis XIII walnut side chair features a finely turned frame with elaborate barley-twist legs and stretchers forming an H-shaped base. Of generous proportions, it has a high upright back and a wide, deep seat—typical of early 17th-century French seating that furnished formal interiors of the Louis XIII period.The seat and back are upholstered in a late 17th-century tapestry, likely Aubusson, richly woven with birds amid scrolling foliage, ribbons, and vases. An exquisite faded palette of blues, greens, ochres, and beige lends softness and authenticity. A highly decorative side chair, with distinctive scale and quiet elegance.
