The Virgin of Sorrows, with an expressive face, glass eyes, and tears, is dressed in antique lace and velvet textiles and crowned with a magnificent halo and a chased silver crown. She holds the recumbent Christ in her lap, with naturalistic anatomy and original patina, accompanied by polychrome cherubs on either side. A powerful devotional piece, conceived for an oratory or procession, it is an exceptional example of late Spanish Baroque sculpture.
