This extraordinary vase belongs to the celebrated "Piumato" series by Barovier & Toso, created around 1942 under the artistic direction of Ercole Barovier, among the finest examples of 20th-century Murano glass research into materials and light.
The monumentally proportioned cylindrical body is crafted entirely from thick, clear crystal, embellished with intricate, hand-sculpted relief applications that develop in a fluid, ascending movement across the surface, evoking light feathers or plant fronds, hence the series' name.
The result is a masterful balance between technique and poetry, where the absolute transparency of the glass amplifies light and shadow, transforming the volume into an ethereal sculpture.
The "Piumato" represents one of the pinnacles of Ercole Barovier's production, in which the Murano glassmaking tradition meets modern artistic language, resulting in results of rare elegance and sculptural power.
Signed with a diamond under the base, the vase is in excellent condition, with minimal signs of aging consistent with its age.
A collector's piece of exceptional rarity and historical value, a symbol of the technical and formal brilliance of the Barovier & Toso glassworks, one of the oldest and most prestigious glassworks in the world.

Barovier & Toso is one of the oldest and most prestigious glassworks in Murano, with documented roots dating back to 1295, considered an absolute cornerstone in the history of artistic glassmaking worldwide. The factory owes much of its modern fame to the innovations of Ercole Barovier, artistic director from 1920 to 1972, who revolutionized the technique and aesthetics of Murano glass through a profoundly experimental language based on research into materials, color, texture, and transparency. from the celebrated "Piumato," "Scavo," "Lenti," and "Barbarico" series, to the one-of-a-kind pieces of the 1950s and 1960s, the furnace has successfully combined centuries-old tradition with modernity, producing works now considered icons of Italian design. Still in operation, Barovier & Toso continues to stand out for its artisanal excellence, sculptural quality, and technical innovation, maintaining a central role in the international art glass scene.
