The text is from the Imperial Rescript on Education (Kyōiku Chokugo) — a tribute to honour, loyalty, and ancestral virtue, a traditional theme in both Japanese and Chinese calligraphy. It emphasizes respect for parents, harmony within the family, and devotion to the community. Such moral writings were often displayed in schools or temples as ethical and aesthetic guidance.

Signed in ink at the lower left, followed by a red hanko seal reading Gozan Chiyoji, the artist’s name.

The brushwork is controlled and rhythmic, with gentle variations in ink tone — characteristic of mid-20th-century Japanese calligraphy.
