A gilded copper ewer from 1700, with a rounded body punctuated by a quadripartite decoration defined by the embossing of a double vertical rib framing tableaux decorated with floral clusters. The background of these panels is finely stippled with chisel tools, lending a pleasing relief to the embossed sections, which are enhanced by the burnishing.
The cast handle echoes the volute motif found on the body of the 18th-century ewer. The spout is closed by a hinged lid with a small floral motif as a grip, with minor deformations near the hinge that compromise its perfect closure.
The upper portion shows signs of welding in the horizontal section, explained by the presence of a glass ampoule sealed with plaster at the end of the neck.
This elegant golden jug was designed to serve wine during the Eucharistic celebration. It is an Italian artefact dating back to 1700, with splendid fire-gilding and is in good condition, apart from a small dent in the middle of the body, consistent with an eighteenth-century dating.
