Discover the timeless elegance of this late 19th century French Aubusson tapestry featuring a captivating design inspired by the 16th-century museum tapestry. This tapestry is a finely woven Aubusson piece in silk, featuring a richly ornamented design characteristic of Renaissance- and Baroque-inspired creations. The composition is structured around a central symmetrical axis, where two stylized human figures sit on either side of a large floral bouquet. These figures, rendered in an allegorical manner, are integrated into a fantastical architectural framework composed of arabesques and cartouches. The background is organized into compartmentalized panels filled with floral motifs, fruits, birds, and small animals, all depicted with great precision. One can observe lush flower arrangements, clusters of grapes, perched birds, and decorative creatures inspired by mythology or by fantastical bestiaries. At the top, decorative urns adorned with scrolls and foliage frame the composition, while the lower register displays lively animal scenes, sometimes rendered in an almost naturalistic style. The dominant colors—deep reds, golds, soft beiges, and greens—are typical of the refined dyes used in silk tapestries. The entire piece is bordered by a simple brown frame that enhances the richness of the design. The overall style evokes grotesque tapestries and motifs inspired by 16th-century Italian models, reinterpreted by the Aubusson workshops with the technical virtuosity characteristic of their tradition. Woven extremely finely with precision in silk at Aubusson manufacturing , using a low warp (basse lisse) loom characteristic of Aubusson craftsmanship. Admire the beautiful colors that bring this piece. Elevate your space with the artistry and heritage woven into every thread. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
