The small cylindrical body is glazed in a warm coral-orange color with a hand-painted floral cartouche on the front. The top is fitted with a decorative gilt brass mount featuring a hinged lid and pen rest opening, and inside sits the glass insert where ink would have been held. The underside mark “R.M. France” identifies it as a 20th-century French decorative desk accessory, made in a traditional style inspired by earlier 18th–19th century writing pieces.
