A beautiful and rare antique covered jar, likely a honey or jam pot, crafted by the renowned Theodore Haviland of Limoges, France. This exquisite piece features the classic delicate porcelain body adorned with a colorful, hand-painted motif of a "Bird of Paradise" (or similar exotic bird) perched on a blossoming branch.
The pot has a gently rounded, octagonal-sided body. The most striking features are the intricate detailing and lavish use of gold:
The rim of the jar and the octagonal lid are finished with a stunning, raised gold enamel border featuring a geometric, scalloped/heart design.
The lid is topped with a decorative gold-finished finial.
The lid is specially cut out on one side to accommodate a small spoon or scoop.
