Stunning late 19th century Persian Sarouk Manchester Wool rug.

Before the 1920s the Sarouk design was the most popular of Persian rugs worldwide. Most of them consist of deep red fields with navy borders. Rarely are they found in inverse colors like this stellar example.
Mohajeran Sarouk were produced with finer velvet "like" wool and higher knot counts than your traditional Sarouk. Most Sarouks that are found more consistently are the "Ferahan Sarouks" which were made in the middle and later part of the 19th century and "American" Sarouks which were made in the 1930s-1940s.
