The lamp was created by industrial designer and space planner Peter Hamburger, whose light sculptures are held in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA).
Hamburger spent three years developing the "Crylicord" lighting collection, which was eventually introduced to the market around 1974 and produced by George Kovacs as the "Crylicord Series."
This pair retains the original Kovacs Underwriters Laboratories sticker inside the chrome shade (shown in images).
In creating the lamps, Hamburger's goal was to combine structure and function into a single, seamless form by changing traditional lamp shapes.
The lamp utilizes a patented clear acrylic (lucite) tubing that acts as both a structural element and a conduit to conceal the electrical cord, making it appear practically invisible. Because of the clear stem and minimal chrome base, the lamps have been described as "light sculptures" that look like "floating tubes of light" at night.

Very good vintage condition, consistent with age and use. The acrylic is clear. One lamp still retains its original acrylic switch. Although the other does not, it still functions easily. There are some very minor scratch to the chrome - all of which are shown in the attached images. As with all such task lamps, these can sway a bit when nudged, so we have typically placed a plastic bumper under the base to encourage the lamps to stay in place.
