History tells us that in 1853, after roughly 200 years devoid of contact, trade agreements between Japan and the Western World brought about a keen interest in Japanese design motifs. The French sought Japanese designs in fabrics, textiles and silks. Far Eastern influence continued to impact the decorative arts through the Art Deco years. This particular design is one of a grouping we purchased in Paris showcasing these Japanese and Chinese motifs. This one was for Japanese robes. Note the intricate and elaborate floral patterns with their quiet beauty and elegance. The image has soft, natural color tones with a depth of texture. Horizontal image. Excellent condition. 15 x 11 inches in size. Margins are clean. See companion lithographs in our shop. See less
