A contemporary Art Deco inspord gilt bronze vase titled "Oriental Mystery Objets de'Arte" by by the legendary Art Deco master Erte (Romain de Tirtoff). Etched signature on side with an annotation of 59/395. Produced in 1990. From a private collection. Dimensions: 12"h x 9" diameter. In very good vintage condition.
The vase showcases Erte's signature blend of elegance, exoticism, and stylized figuration. The vessel’s surface is adorned with a high-relief female figure rendered in flowing drapery, her pose capturing a sense of graceful movement. Intricate gilt accents highlight the swirling ribbons and ornamental motifs surrounding her, while subtle textural finishes create a shimmering, ethereal backdrop. Decorative cloud forms and geometric borders further emphasize Erté’s refined Art Deco vocabulary infused with Eastern-inspired aesthetics. A striking collectible that bridges fine art, design, and the ornamental traditions of the 20th century.
Erte (Romain de Tirtoff, 1892–1990) was a pioneering figure of the Art Deco movement, celebrated for his glamorous fashion illustrations, stage and costume designs, and decorative arts. Over his seven-decade career, he produced more than 250 magazine covers for Harper's Bazaar and worked with leading theaters including the Folies Bergère, Paris Opera, and New York’s Metropolitan Opera. His bronze sculptures, jewelry, and objets d'art became highly sought after, earning him the title "Father of Art Deco Revival" in the 20th century. In 1976, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London honored him with a major retrospective, cementing his status as one of the most influential decorative artists of the modern era.
