A truly brilliant and luxurious collection, this antique Edwardian English sterling silver and cut crystal scent bottle and jar set is a masterclass in early 20th-century elegance. Dating from circa 1905–1907, each piece features exquisitely cut crystal with fluted sides and panels of classic diamond-pattern hobnail, beautifully catching and refracting the light, with sharp crisp edges.
The sterling silver lids, hallmarked by Cooper Brothers & Sons, are richly detailed with an intricate engine-turned pattern and a central, intertwined monogram “DG”. Subtle yellowing in areas of the silver hints at their original gold gilt finish, a testament to the set’s high expense and luxurious status when new, the soft patina adding to its character and history. Each piece has a wonderful cut starburst pattern on the bottom. This substantial, eye-catching set would have originally graced a gentleman’s vanity.
(2) Bottles - 5.75 inches high, 2.5 inches wide and 2.5 inches deep.
One was intended for cologne and has a glass stopper with hinged lid. There is a chip loss to the interior stopper. This bottle has a large chip loss (0.75 inch) to front bottom right corner.
The other bottle has a cork based stopper with brass drip dispenser, likely used to dispense after shave for the face. The lid of this bottle can be removed. The silver weight of this lid alone is 30 grams! It's quite thick and heavy.
(2) Jars - 3.75 inches high, 2.5 inches wide and 2.5 inches deep
The lids feature a thick exterior of silver with knob tops, the interiors are solid crystal, adding heft to seal the jars for creams.
(1) Large Jar - 3.75 inches high, 3.25 inches wide and 3.25 inches deep.
The solid silver lid of this one jar weighs 67 grams.
The total weight of all pieces is approximately 5 pounds. We estimate at least 150 grams of sterling silver content in this collection. Each piece has some chips to edges and base as to be expected from use/age. Please review photos for further condition assessment.
Today, it makes a striking addition to any curated interior, equally suited for home decor, a collector’s cabinet, or luxurious modern use. A stunning and authentic reflection of Edwardian refinement.
