Hard to find Small 1/2 Gallon Size. Circa Late 19th Century. It has a Classic Greige Color American Salt Glaze Exterior. The front is Hand Decorated a Deep Cobalt Blue "Stencil" Style and Advertises the Merchants Name and Location - W. H. KING at 7 HART STREET in COHOES NEW YORK . Back in the day these type of jugs were on loan to customers from Retail Merchants such as Liquor Stores, Grocery Stores, Etc. so That They Could used and Refilled. By the Way I Did Find a Reference to a William H. King that Lived in Cohoes During the Same Time Frame. Also Cohoes is Located in the Proximity of the Erie Canal. It is in Excellent Condition - Displays Beautifully. It has a Few Very Small - Minor Surface Glaze and Spout Chips Area but these are Normal as a Result of Use. The Bottom Perimeter Has Some Surface Spots - Imperfections but These Would Have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process.
