About Rose Famille
Rose Famille, also known as "Famille Rose" (粉彩 fencai in Chinese), emerged during the Qing Dynasty in the early 18th century and reached its peak during the reign of Emperor Yongzheng (1722-1735). This revolutionary decorative technique introduced opaque pink and rose enamels derived from colloidal gold to the Chinese porcelain palette, creating softer, more delicate tones than the earlier Famille Verte style.
The name "Famille Rose" was coined by 19th century French collectors and dealers, referring to the predominant use of pink tones in the decoration. These pieces were highly prized in European markets and became synonymous with Chinese export porcelain during the 18th and 19th centuries. The style was particularly favored for its ability to create subtle gradations of color and detailed pictorial scenes, often featuring peonies, chrysanthemums, birds, and figures from Chinese literature and mythology.
Condition
Please note: This piece has been repaired in the past. The repairs were executed long ago and have developed their own patina over time, becoming part of the vase's history and character. The old repairs are stable and consistent with the age and use of a 19th century decorative object.
These historic repairs are typical for pieces of this age and do not significantly detract from the vase's decorative appeal and historical interest. The piece remains a lovely example of Chinese export porcelain.
