Vintage Home is pleased to present this Luigi Tiengo attributed Gondola Sofa newly upholstered in Scalamandre Starburst Embroidered Silk Blend … Read more Vintage Home is pleased to present this Luigi Tiengo attributed Gondola Sofa newly upholstered in Scalamandre Starburst Embroidered Silk Blend Satin. The upholstery is a soft lime green with turquoise embroidered starbursts. The turquoise is more vibrant in person than shows in lighted photography because of the silk texture. The sofa is fabulous in size and shape. It has a button-tufted seat and angled back. It’s a deep seated, low-rise lounge sofa. A stunning contemporary style with old-world Italian and Hollywood Regency flare. Tiengo was born in Italy in 1926. He moved to Canada as he built his award-winning furniture design business. He traveled to Italy and Scandinavia frequently and was familiar with the iconic Mid-Century designs of that time and they had an influential impact on his designs. He used furniture manufacturer Cimon Montreal for most of his productions, but there is no marker on this piece. In 1971 he stopped furniture designing and returned to his first love which was painting for the rest of his life. At the time of listing, we also offered a matching Gondola Lounge Chair in our shop.
