That same tripod form can be seen on this pair of forged iron Italian pricket candlesticks, which date to the late 1500s or early 1600s. These particular candlesticks have great stability, resulting from legs that are deep and arching, with flattened leaf-shaped feet. Beneath each pricket is a round knop adorned with a thin recession, while the columns have subtle rectangular protrusions in the middle. These were functional, as the rectangular ridges provided a better grip for handling, while the upper knop would help collect dripping wax. Keen eyes will notice hammer marks along the columns that add to the charm and authenticity of the candlesticks.

Around the 15th century, pricket candlesticks became a less common form of illumination; however, they were still popular amongst the non-secular, often found on altars in churches.
