Excellent condition, Lithograph on four sheets of Canson colored paper published by Diane Villani Editions and printed by Derriere L’Etoile Studios, New York in a limited edition of 35 plus 11 artist’s proofs.
This is an original Mel Bochner First Color Quartet 1990 Lithograph. The lithograph unfolds across four separate sheets of Canson paper in intense dark colors –purple, blue and magma orange/gold– each measuring 20” x 15” that come together to form a square with a void in the center. The dynamic layered composition travels across the different color zones or states as a single continuous force field. The work invites the viewer to reflect on formal relationships, continuity, and perception.
Mel Bochner (1940-2025) is widely regarded as one of the founders and a leading figure of Conceptual Art. His work is held in major museum collections around the world, including the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Art Institute of Chicago, Wexner Center for the Arts, Centre Georges Pompidou, and the Tate Gallery, among many other public and private collections.
