A spectacular and unusually long, uncut, Antique Nanjing Yunjin Cloud Brocade (Yun Jin, 云锦) textile, dating to the late Qing or early Republic period (c. 1880–1930). Woven with gilt paper-wrapped gold thread (织金) and richly colored silk, this large-format brocade features scrolling lotus and 宝相花 (“Treasure Flower”) medallions — one of the most iconic motifs in the historic Nanjing weaving workshops.
This is a full 14-foot robe-length yardage made for traditional court-style garments, measuring an impressive 167" in length and 31" in width, retaining its original workshop structure:
• Embroidered Section 1: 19.5"
• Plain Silk Panel: 42"
• Embroidered Section 2: 102"
• Loom Tail: 3"
The format is consistent with traditional robe bolts that were woven in sequence: decorative panels flanking plain silk intended for garment shaping and construction.
Provenance
Acquired in January 1996 at the Nanjing State Museum, Jiangsu Antique Store (江苏文物商店) in Nanjing, one of China’s most respected government-run cultural relic shops.

The gold-thread brocade is bright and supple with no structural breaks or metal-thread loss. The reverse side of the plain silk panel shows a few minor, non-penetrating storage marks consistent with decades of careful preservation. These appear to be paste or paper-type deposits and are mentioned for accuracy only, as they do not show through on front side and thus do not impact the presentation or use. Shipping Notes This textile will be shipped rolled, not folded, to preserve the integrity of the gold-thread weaving. Shipping charge includes insurance. less
