Joan Miro (1893-1983) was a Spanish painter, sculptor, and ceramicist born in Barcelona. A leading member of the Surrealist movement, Miro's work is characterized by its childlike simplicity and dreamlike quality. He used a variety of mediums throughout his career, including painting, sculpture, printmaking, and ceramics. Miro is one of the most important artists of the 20th century.
