Each porcelain plate is 10 1/2" in diameter and are done with cobalt blue and gold gilt design. In the past, plates of this caliber were used as "Show Plates" in a formal dining room setting and then removed with the appetizer plate as dinner resumed. It is hard to find one of these plates, of this caliber, let alone a dozen. The plates are in excellent as found condition, and hard to say if they were ever used. The plates came from a very elegant home in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico in the late 1990's, and have been in storage since then. We feel very fortunate to be able to bring items of this caliber from around the world, to the collecting market. See less

I do not believe they have ever been used or if they have it was for show plates only. There are still some plate dividers between some of the plates, that have yellowed over time. This actually shows me that they we kept in storage most of the time and not used. less
