Four such pairs are currently available. They are made of carved Italian walnut with a distressed chestnut brown finish and upholstered in classic chestnut-brown leather. Impressive for both their proportions and substantial dimensions, the chairs feature elaborately carved frames, padded backs and seats, open arms, and cabriole legs with an X-stretcher.
They were crafted by the renowned Therien Studio Workshops, a firm known for meticulous craftsmanship featuring hand-planed, distressed, and hand-rubbed finishes. This company, long a favorite with interior designers, was founded in association with Therien & Co., a design firm with roots in the antique and fine art business dating back to the late 1950s. Launched in Los Angeles and San Francisco, the manufacturing offshoot specializes in creating custom furniture, including reproductions of timeless 18th-century pieces as well as unique contemporary designs, rendered primarily in fine woods including walnut, as were these chairs, mahogany, and Karelian birch.
The brand's furnishings are often inspired by historical styles, as in this case Venetian from the Baroque period, but blended with a modern sensibility, demonstrated here by scaling up for comfort.
