Joppa has shown his work joyfully and has been received by a growing group of collectors and benefactors. Starting slowly, with those for whom he restored an instrument, and gaining exposure at local galleries. The work is subdued and nuanced, such as the use of piano strings in kinetic sculptures or custom-framing hand-lacquering piano lids, or collecting and piecing sandpaper bits into collages. The work is unique, self-taught, and centers around the enjoyment of making art from materials resultant in the restoration of pianos.

This piece references the past; it is a hand-pieced sculpture composed of expired copper piano strings from the US and Europe set into a black lacquered box filled with lead for stability. The box has been intentionally burned to expose the lead, and thus is titled "Burning Bush".
